Robbery Investigation

Date/Time of Incident: June 20, 2012 / 10:38 a.m.
Location of Incident: 2809 E. State Blvd.
Robbery Victim: Do’s Jewelers
Loss: Undetermined

Battery Victim: Adult / Male, Serious Condition

Suspect Description(s): 1) Male/Black; last seen wearing a white shirt, and shorts.
2) Male/Black; last seen wearing dark-colored clothing.

This morning, at approximately 10:38 am, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to 2809 E. State Blvd., Do’s Jewelers, reference a report of a possible armed robbery.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the two perpetrators entered the jewelry store and demanded cash at gunpoint from the jewelry store employee. Both perpertrators were reportedly armed with handguns, and both were reportedly wearing ski-masks. During this robbery, one of the perpetrators struck the jewelry store employee about the head and face with the handgun causing injury. The jewelry store employee was determined to be in serious condition and was transported to a local hospital.

Investigators continue to interview witnesses, and are interviewing witnesses from the other neighboring businesses in the plaza, and Crime Scene Technicians are processing the scene for possible evidence inside the jewelry store.

The incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Anyone with information about this robbery investigation is asked to contact the City of Fort Wayne Police Department or Crime Stoppers. Calls made to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and a cash reward is possible for information received.

Battery Victim: Adult / Male; remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Arrested: Stafford A. Staples, Jr., age 18, Fort Wayne
Charge: Robbery, Class B-Felony

Shortly after the robbery attempt occurred, witnesses began reporting information as to the possible escape route of the perpetrators and a possible suspect vehicle. Two traffic stops were initiated in response to the suspect vehicle description aired. Of the two traffic stops, the first was determined not to be connected to the incident. The second vehicle stopped, a red/gray-colored Blazer, was determined to be a possible ‘get-away’ vehicle. This stop was initiated in the 3200 block of Wayne Trace. Upon further investigation, evidence of the robbery attempt was discovered inside the vehicle and the driver, who was also the sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken into police custody. He was interviewed and has since been transported to the Allen County Jail on a B-Felony Charge of Robbery.

The two other suspects remain at large at this time, and detectives continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the City of Fort Wayne Police Department or Crime Stoppers. There is nothing further at this time.
