Full field of LPGA pros announced for 2012 Mad Anthonys Charity Classic
(June 12, 2012) — The Mad Anthonys 2012 Charity Classic for Children completed the field for its new format with the addition of four of the LPGA Tour’s most promising and talented young players.
The four players added today are Jessica Korda, Belen Mozo, Azahara Munoz and Beatriz Recari. While all relatively new to the tour – none of the four joined the tour before 2010 – they have wasted no time in making their impact; the four additions sport a combined career earnings of more than $2 million and 15-plus top 10 finishes.
The four youngsters round out the field of 12 and add an impressive layer of youth and early success to the event. The field of 12 – with a combined five tournament victories between them already in 2012 – will compete for their share of a $300,000 combined purse at the event, which is hosted by current LPGA pro and Fort Wayne native Amanda Blumenherst.
“For anyone who follows the tour, it’s clear that players like Belen, Azahara, Jessica and Beatriz represent the future of women’s golf for all the right reasons,” Blumenherst said. “I’ve had the good fortune of both playing with them and watching them up close, and their level of talent and skill will make for an exciting addition to this event.”
The addition of the final four LPGA pros also ensures fans of the event will get a first-hand look at the Tour’s future while also celebrating one of the most decorated figures of its past, Nancy Lopez, who committed to the Charity Classic in April.
Lopez was the most dominant and well-known golfer on the LPGA throughout her distinguished 25-year career, racking up 48 career wins, including 3 majors, and winning the money title 3 times. She joins a list of the LPGA’s most promising young players in pursuit of the event’s $300,000 purse, including Fort Wayne native Amanda Blumenherst, who will serve as the Charity Classic’s first-ever official host.
