News release from Save Maumee:
River Rummage Sale on July 14, 2012
Lake Erie Waterkeeper, Save Maumee Program needs your used items. The group is planning a large fundraiser River Rummage Sale to kick off the Three Rivers Festival on Saturday July 14, 2012 from 8am-6pm. The River Rummage Sale will be located on the Historic Wells Street Bridge off Wells Street, over the St. Marys River. All monies raised will help to curtail the cost of day to day operations of Save Maumee and allow for more environmental education and projects on the water, within the city.
Save Maumee is looking for donations for the sale and will accept all household items; excluding large pieces of furniture. In addition to the rummage sale, Save Maumee will have environmental education activities on-going throughout the day including a rain barrel workshop and repurposed items in art. Save Maumee will have trees and vegetation for sale that was donated by a local nursery. The group will collect all your old batteries to dispose of them properly at the rummage sale. If have items to donate to the fundraiser rummage sale please contact Kyle Quandt @ 260.414.8838 to arrange a time to either deliver the items or for someone to pick them up for you.
Save Maumee has recently joined forces with Lake Erie Waterkeepers to further their goals of swimmable, fishable, drinkable waterways. The groups have aligned to preserve, protect and improve the watersheds, waters and fish of the Upper Maumee River by increasing awareness through advocacy, collaboration, education and hands-on projects. It is important to note that the water from Fort Wayne Rivers is used for drinking water downstream and outlets into Lake Erie, which has experienced algae blooms and dead zones recently due to nutrients and phosphorous. All money collected at the River Rummage Sale will go to accomplish those goals and to help offset the day-to-day expenses as they work for cleaner waterways.
Save Maumee plans to review all industrial permits issued by the State, gather and disseminate information to the public. If you want to get involved, attend Lake Erie Waterkeeper, Save Maumee Program monthly meetings on the first Monday of every month at Halls Gas House on E. Superior Street from 7pm-8pm.
