News release from the City of Fort Wayne:
Trek the Trails series continues
Visit Fort Wayne steps up to sponsor this week’s trail rideThe City of Fort Wayne is reminding residents that the next Trek the Trail ride of 2012 will take place tomorrow at 6 p.m., along the Towpath Trail. Participants will meet at Rockhill Park, 1400 Catalpa St., just east of the intersection of W. Jefferson Boulevard and Freeman Street for the 8-mile ride.
Tuesday’s ride is being sponsored by Visit Fort Wayne, www.visitfortwayne.com.
“We’re thrilled that local businesses are stepping up to become sponsors of a weekly event that promotes healthy communities,” Mayor Tom Henry said. “We’re pleased to be able to offer events that bring family and friends together, as they enjoy one of the finest trail systems in the Midwest.”
The City is hosting its third season of Trek the Trails – a popular series of free, guided community bike rides along 68 miles of trail network. Trek the Trails — which runs from May through September — features a series of 22 Tuesday evening rides, four Saturday rides and a stargazing bike ride in October.
A complete list of the scheduled rides is below.
Participating cyclists are asked to meet at the start of the 6 p.m. rides no later than 5:45 p.m. and are required to wear helmets.
If there is unsafe weather — such as heavy rain, lightning or extreme heat — the ride will be cancelled. A cancellation notice will be posted at www.FortWayneParks.org.
The City is looking for additional sponsors. Any businesses or agencies interested in sponsoring rides should call 427-6228.
