Mayor announces Fire Chief’s impending retirement
911 Merger, Public Safety Co-location, Technology Pushes are Career BenchmarksMayor Tom Henry today announced the impending retirement of Fire Chief Pete Kelly. Kelly will remain with the department through August 3.
Kelly became Chief in 2007 after serving as a firefighter for 15 years and as a Deputy Chief for seven years. His nearly three decades with the department saw increasing levels of responsibility. His educational background and experience as a former business owner and human resources administrator brought valuable expertise to the fire administration.
“Chief Kelly is a firefighter’s firefighter,” said Mayor Henry. “He puts the protection of this community first, and is a staunch advocate for his staff. He has worked diligently to upgrade equipment, technology and training for the Fire Department. His guidance was essential in the successful consolidation of our 911 communications and in bringing all of our community’s public safety divisions together in a new home. He has been a great asset to our team, and I will miss him – come August, that is.”
“I am fortunate to be a part of one of the greatest departments in the country,” Kelly said. “The men and women of the Fort Wayne Fire Department are a tremendous group of top-notch professionals who are dedicated to protecting this community, every moment of every day. I’ll really miss working with all of the firefighters who have made this department what it is today.”
The Mayor expects to name a new Fire Chief in the near future.
