Foundation to support Fort Wayne Community Schools
The Board of Directors of the Fort Wayne Community Schools Foundation announced today its reconstitution and reinvigoration as a fundraising organization in support of FWCS’ academic programs. As a first step, the Foundation Board also announced that it will be conducting a survey to help them understand which programs matter most to parents and community members.
“Funding challenges have become a way of life for public education,” said FWCS Foundation Board President Don Andorfer. “As a retired educator, I am concerned that financial shortages will hinder the district’s ability to continue with the great progress it is making in improving student achievement. The FWCS Foundation hopes to raise funds to support the district’s educational programs that are working and to invest in innovative programs that will further increase academic results.”
The FWCS Foundation has been in place for many years but has never been used actively to solicit financial support for the district. The Foundation is legally separate from FWCS and is recognized by the IRS as exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
“A strong public school system is the cornerstone of a strong community,” Mr. Andorfer said. “This is a critical time for our community to ensure that all of our students, regardless of their backgrounds, are graduating from schools prepared for college or careers. By supporting the FWCS Foundation, we can ensure that the largest district in the region with the highest complexity can successfully fulfill its mission to educate all students to high standards, enabling them to become productive, responsible citizens.”
The FWCS Foundation survey will be administered electronically by independent research and communications firm K12 Insight. It will be e-mailed to parents, FWCS staff members and community members for whom FWCS has e-mail addresses. Other community members may take the survey by going to the FWCS web site, www.fortwayneschools.org, and clicking on the “Your Voice” icon. For community members without access to a computer, all Allen County Public Libraries have free computers and wireless available, and North Side High School’s Media Center will have computers available for the community every day from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. until Oct. 12.
