News release from the City of Fort Wayne:

Entrance to City Yard Waste Site to be Relocated

(June 17, 2011) – As a result of the Maplecrest Road project, the entrance to the City’s yard waste composting and biosolids handling facility in the 6000 block of Lake Avenue will be relocated next week.

On Tuesday, June 21, 2011, a new entrance to the site will open approximately 700-feet to the west of the current entrance. The new entrance will be located directly across from Lofton Way.

The new entrance will also be the new exit from the site. The relocation is expected to make it easier for cars wishing to turn left on Lake Avenue when leaving the facility as drivers will no longer contend with on-coming traffic from Maplecrest Road.

The City facility is a yard waste drop off location for residents. Biosolids – a combination of treated sewage sludge and composted leaves – are also available at the site. Biosolids are free to residents who load the material themselves. For businesses or for larger loads a charge of $12.20 per ton loaded applies.

Hours for the facility are 8 AM to 6 PM on Monday through Saturday and Noon to 6 PM on Sunday.
