News release from Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation:
Public Invited for Final Look at Diehm Museum
(June 17, 2011) – The Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department is offering free entry to the Diehm Museum, 600 Franke Park Drive, before the contents of the museum are auctioned. The free entry dates are June 24 – June 27, 9 am – 4 pm. The public auction will be June 28 at 2 pm.
“The Park Board and I extend a heartfelt thanks to the late Mr. Diehm and his family for their contribution over the years by their creation of a unique Natural History environment for regional residents to enjoy,” said Parks & Recreation Director Al Moll. “Unfortunately as cultural habits change, the Diehm Museum could no longer compete with other sources of Natural History information such as the Internet, cable TV and other types of media.”
The Board of Park Commissioners voted on May 26 to close the museum and possibly renovate the building into a special events center.
