CANI announces grants

(April 7, 2011) – CANI (Community Action of Northeast Indiana)’s Covering Kids & Families program announces the receipt of several grants:

Parkview Foundation: $2,500

Parkview Hospital supports the local community through gifts to local agencies in order to fulfill Parkview’s mission to improve the health of the community. Parkview Hospital’s Community Health Improvement Program is funded annually through a tithe of the hospital’s net income. As the community’s only non-profit hospital, Parkview chooses to give to programs that have a positive impact on the health of Allen County residents.

Parkview Whitley Foundation: $24,000

Parkview Whitley Hospital supports the local community through gifts to local agencies in order to fulfill Parkview’s mission to improve the health of the community. Parkview Whitley Hospital’s Community Health Improvement Program is funded annually through a tithe of the hospital’s net income. As the community’s only non-profit hospital, Parkview chooses to give to programs that have a positive impact on the health of Whitley County residents.

Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne: $24,000

The mission of the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne Inc. is to build public giving partnerships that effectively connect donors with nonprofit organizations and community projects to produce a brighter future for all people in Allen County.

Managed Health Services (MHS): $5,000

Managed Health Services Indiana (MHS) is a health maintenance organization that has been serving the Hoosier Healthwise and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) population in partnership with the Hoosier Healthwise Program since 1995 and beginning in January 2011, the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP). MHS is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Centene Corporation®, a leading, multi-line healthcare enterprise offering both core Medicaid and specialty services. For more, contact MHS, 1099 N. CANI is a member of Covering Kids & Families Northeast Indiana (CKF-NEIN), a coalition of partners that works to inform residents about state health insurance options and offers enrollment assistance to eligible individuals. CKF-NEIN serves Allen, DeKalb, Noble, Steuben, Whitley, LaGrange and Kosciusko Counties. Statewide, CKF of Indiana is made up of more than 500 partnering organizations committed to ensuring that all Hoosier children and families eligible for Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) are enrolled.

The donations will be used to reach out to Northeast Indiana children and adults in need of health coverage CANI helps communities, families, and individuals remove the causes and conditions of poverty. For more information about CANI and the services provided, visit the Web site www.canihelp.org.
