Mayoral candidate interviews

Last week, I collaborated with fellow blogger Jim Sack to interview what is considered to be the top three Republican Mayoral candidates.

Jim contributes to the Angry White Boy blog.  We both contributed questions we considered would be of interest to our readers as well as revealing about each candidates thoughts and positions on the issues.  We tried to stay away from issues already covered by the various media outlets and those in which the candidates were already on record for their stances.  We also tried not to bore down too deeply, or grill the candidates.  We wanted this to be an opportunity for the candidates to be truly heard.

Jim did the interviews with two of the candidates while I interviewed the third.  I also took care of the video documentation.

This was a learning process for myself.  It was the first time I’ve used two cameras to record an interview, with the exception of the Liz Brown interview.  It was also the first time I used my video editing software to meld clips from the two cameras into one cohesive video.  There were some minor problems, such as audio phasing from solely the left channel to suddenly stereo in the Paula Hughes clips to someone’s cell phone being picked up in Mr. Doden’s interview.  Luckily, we were able to use the raw audio from the un-miked camera.  There were also lessons learned, for instance, not to record segments longer than 12-15 minutes.  For some reason, the editing software I used bulks at anything over 18 minutes.

All in all, a good experience for myself and hopefully the rest involved as well.  A special thanks for Jim for his time and effort – and his patience while I uploaded the video clips to YouTube.  Unfortunately, it took almost three days of starting and stopping to accomplish this.  So please be gentle with your comments!
