Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast Celebrating Women and the Written Word

(March 14, 2011) – In celebration of Women’s History Month, Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast is offering the perfect opportunity to commemorate the many contributions of women to the literary world. All community members are invited to explore the concept of gender and the voices of the women’s movement by experiencing the poetic and academic works of women at Write the Feminine: A Celebration of Women’s Words and History on Friday, March 25.

Ivy Tech’s Creative Writer’s Group and Women’s Committee are organizing the event and plan to feature readings from contemporary female writers, as well as original works of various genres created and performed by local writers. Ivy Tech-Northeast and IPFW students will have a unique opportunity to see professors in a different light. Instructors, Paula Ashe, Gloria Diaz, Dodie Marie Miller, Deanna Price-Surfus, Maria I. Tsakova, and Kathi Weiss are a few of the women who will perform at the evening celebration.

“Students will be introduced to some of the unique written works that have been created by their instructors,” said Paula Ashe, Chair of the Women’s Committee. “It allows us to showcase local talents but also connects their messages to those of more well-known feminists.”

Write the Feminine will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ivy Tech-Northeast’s Coliseum Campus Auditorium (3800 N. Anthony Blvd). The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Paula Ashe at pashe@ivytech.edu or 260-480-2042.
