2011 Indiana Dance Festival connects dancers, educators through workshops and performances

(March 3, 2011) – The Fort Wayne Dance Collective is excited to present the 3rd Indiana Dance Festival, April 1-3, 2011 downtown. The weekend-long event will attract dozens of dancers, dance educators, and wellness enthusiasts, at the professional, pre-professional, and student levels, from around the state and region.

Previously held in 2006 and 2007, this year’s IDF will be bigger and better than ever, with 25 workshops in 5 different tracks: cultural dance, technical dance, Dance for the Nontraditional Dancer (teaching dance to people with disabilities,) No Dance Clothes Required (skills necessary to run a dance organization), and Wellness.

Headlining the weekend is an April 1 performance by Hubbard Street 2 at the Arts United Center, part of the Hubbard Street Dance Company, an internationally renowned dance education and performance organization based in Chicago, IL. On April 2, the IDF is organizing the Indiana Dancers Showcase, featuring pieces performed by dance companies represented at the festival. Performances are planned by dancers from Indiana University, Ball State University, Motus Dance Theatre in Indianapolis, the New American Youth Ballet in Fort Wayne, and many others.
