News release from the City of Fort Wayne:

Register for One-Cart Recycling, Learn About Rain Gardens At the Fort Wayne Home and Garden Show

Fort Wayne residents have an opportunity to register for one cart recycling this weekend when they attend the Fort Wayne Home and Garden Show. The City’s Solid Waste Department and City Utilities be at the show providing a variety of information and the opportunity to sign up for a new recycling cart.

“We have a great new recycling program and I’m encouraging all citizens of Fort Wayne to participate,” says Mayor Tom Henry. “The new program makes recycling easier than ever by letting citizens put all of their recyclables in one cart. We’ve expanded the types of plastics that are accepted fro recycling and the new carts can be wheeled to the curb just like the garbage cart. And the recycling is now picked up in the same place as garbage. If your garbage is collected in the alley, the recycling will be too.”

Citizens must register with the City if they wish to receive the new recycling cart. Citizens may register on-line, by calling 311 or by visiting the Solid Waste Department staff at the Home and Garden Show at the Memorial Coliseum this weekend. Once delivery of the carts is completed later this month, recycling placed in open-topped, square bins will not be collected. Only recycling placed in the new carts will be picked up.

Citizens attending the Home and Garden Show may also get information about the City’s rain garden program at the show this weekend. City Utilities staffers will be sharing Booth 824 on the Garden Level at the Coliseum with the Solid Waste Department. Citizens can register at the show for one of 13 rain garden workshops to be offered this spring. City residents who attend a rain garden workshop may be eligible for discounted plants or a cash payment to help them install a rain garden on their property.

The Home and Garden Show runs on Thursday, March 3 from 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM, Friday, March 4 from 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM, Saturday, March 5 from 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM and Sunday, March 6 from 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
