Through March 20, officers will work overtime to conduct high-visibility enforcement activities designed specifically to identify impaired drivers. Motorists will also see an increased number of patrols looking for aggressive drivers and unrestrained motorists during the 17-day mobilization.

In March 2009, there were 41 fatalities on Indiana roadways. Of these, 24 percent involved a driver who was legally intoxicated. According to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, alcoholic beverages continue to be a primary factor in more than one-third of alcohol related collisions in the state of Indiana.

Operation Pull Over Blitz 66 is a statewide enforcement effort supported by federal funding allocated to the Indiana State Police from the Traffic Safety Division of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. The Indiana State Police is committed to reducing serious personal injury and fatality crashes on Hoosier roadways. Operation Pull Over and similar federally funded traffic safety projects are additional tools the Indiana State Police will employ as part of their ongoing crash reduction effort.

We all share the roadways and we all share responsibility in doing our part to make the highways safer. Anyone who observes erratic driving is encouraged to call 911 and be prepared to give as much detailed information as possible such as color and make of vehicle, license plate number, which roadway being traveled, and direction of travel. Callers can remain anonymous.
