Two Notable Lecture Series Join IPFW’s Helmke Library Digital Collection

(December 21, 2010) – Two prominent Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) lecture series were recently added to the growing digital collection hosted and maintained by IPFW’s Walter E. Helmke Library. These lectures, along with all objects on mDON, are free to view.

The Distinguished Lecturer Series digital collection is a compilation of video and program material beginning with the 1989 season. This long running and dynamic bi-annual series, sponsored by the IPFW College of Arts and Sciences, spans a wide range of disciplines. It includes IPFW faculty and community members among its 25 speakers. This is an ongoing collection, with new presentations and associated material added each fall and spring.

The Omnibus Lecture Series digital collection provides print materials and video from many of the lectures, beginning in 2007, of this well-respected series. The series presents diverse ideas through educated, respected, and entertaining speakers to the university community and the residents of northeast Indiana. This is an ongoing mDON collection, with new print material added as made available. Video of upcoming lectures will be made available via mDON with speaker permission.

mDON, established in 2005, contains an array of images, sounds, documents, video, and data collected and organized by Walter E. Helmke Library. The collections are intended to foster an understanding and appreciation of IPFW, Fort Wayne, and northeast Indiana. The contents document the history and development of the area as well as the endeavors and activities of its citizens today. Collection themes range from performances, programs, and events held at IPFW to archival collections developed in cooperation with community partners such as the Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society.
