Press release from Fort Wayne Community Schools:

Great High School Food Drive under way

Four Fort Wayne Community Schools high schools are currently participating in the Great High School Food Drive to benefit Miss Virginia’s Mission House and St. Mary’s Christmas Food Box Program.

Through Monday, Dec. 13, New Tech Academy and North Side, Snider and South Side high schools will serve as drop-off sites for non-perishable food items. Organizers anticipate at least 2,000 families will benefit from this year’s food drive.

Miss Virginia’s Mission House, 1312 Hanna St., feeds 740 families each week and will celebrate its 60th year of service in 2011. St. Mary’s Christmas Food Box Program fills the void created when many food pantries close between Christmas and New Year’s. Each year, the program serves up to 1,300 families.

Food items may be dropped off at any of the four high school locations from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. through Dec. 13.
