United Way and the League for the Blind & Disabled
Partner to Improve Access to Financial Management Programs

(October 14, 2010) – United Way of Allen County and The League for the Blind & Disabled have been awarded a $10,000 Medicaid Infrastructure Grant through the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community at Indiana University. The grant monies will be used to provide access for people with disabilities to attend financial management classes and programs.

The League will work with the Financial Stability Partnership to provide sign language interpreters, specialized transportation, and specialized material (Braille) to individuals with disabilities. The Financial Stability Partnership is a committee of dozens of non-profits and businesses working to educate the community about sound money management. The Partnership organizes Money Smart Week and the Earned Income Tax Credit free tax preparation program.

As part of Money Smart Week, The League will offer a “Where Does Your Money Go?” workshop on October 20, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. Vickie Hadley, of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service, will be the featured speaker.
