Parkview to host parent-teen safe driving seminar

(September 9, 2010) – In an effort to help area parents promote safe driving practices with their teenagers, Parkview’s Adult and Pediatric Trauma Centers will host a Parent-Teen Safe Driving Seminar from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23 at Homestead High School, 4310 Homestead Rd.

Participants will learn about the dangers of texting while driving, as well as precautions that can be taken. Additional topics include safe driving tips for teens, benefits for defining rules for driving and how to create a driving contract between parents and teens.

One of the featured speakers will be Diveeta Thompson, the mother of the late Rodney Thompson II. Rodney was a student at Homestead High School who was killed in an automobile crash in October 2008 due to texting while driving.

The other featured speaker will be Dr. Alex Antalis, who practices with Professional Emergency Physicians and treats patients at Parkview Hospital’s emergency room.

As a door prize, an iPod® will be given to a teenager participating in the seminar. The seminar is free. Parents and their teens are asked to pre-register by calling (866) 784-6706.

The event is sponsored by the Parkview Trauma Centers and WANE-TV NewsChannel 15.
