Notice from Fort Wayne Community Schools:
FWCS will honor Teacher of the Year Michelle White
Fort Wayne Community Schools will have a reception for Teacher of the Year Michelle White at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, in the cafeteria at the Grile Administrative Center. White is a seventh-grade language arts teacher at Northwood Middle School.
White was selected as Teacher of the Year because of her ability to find connections to students and reach out to them at a time when many students are challenged by their changing lives. She stresses creating a sense of community in her classroom by sharing stories about herself and her family and encouraging students to share their experiences as well.
Teacher of the Year finalists Carolyn Bookmyer, English Language Learner teacher at Shawnee Middle School, Joy Forbes, first-grade teacher at Forest Park Elementary, and Kurt Tippmann, math teacher at Snider High School, will also be honored.
Also on Monday, the FWCS Board of School Trustees will hear a public presentation of the 2010 budget. Chief Financial Officer Kathy Friend will present a report on the district’s eight funds: General, Racial Balance, Capital Projects, Transportation, Bus Replacement, Debt Service, Pension Bond and Museum of Art. Â (Webmaster’s note: This meeting begins at 6 pm.)
Two weeks after the initial presentation, the public will have a chance to comment on the proposed budget at the public hearing on Sept. 27. School board members will take action on the budget on Oct. 11.
