Northeastern Indiana Kennel Club to celebrate AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day
Fort Wayne, IN residents to participate in nationwide celebration this September

(July 21, 2010) – The Northeastern Indiana Kennel Club (NEIKC) will be celebrating Responsible Dog Ownership Day (RDO Day) on Saturday, September 11, 2010 The goal of this event is to educate dog owners about the responsibilities involved in owning a dog, to help owners enhance their relationships with their dogs, and to showcase working dogs in our community.

The NEIKC will be hosting their fourth annual RDO Day on Saturday September 11, 2010 at Shoaff Park, Conklin Pavilion. Many different breeds of dogs will be present and their owners will be available to talk with about that breed. State, county and city police dogs and their handlers will be giving demos. Sixteen different breed rescue groups, along with Animal Care and Control, will be present with information about adopting a pet. Local obedience clubs will be doing obedience and agility demonstrations. Learn about the AKC activities like rally, obedience and agility that you and your dog can be involved in. Therapy dog groups and Leader Dogs for the Blind will be on site to discuss their programs and let you know how you can become active with their group. The “ACPL Paws to Read” program will have dogs available to be read to. Dr Karen Pedden DVM will be offering discounted micro chipping ($30) between 1:00 PM-3:00 PM. A drawing to win a free spay / neuter and vaccinations from H.O.P.E. low cost Spay/ Neuter Clinic will be held. Paw Prints, pet photographer, will be taking free photos of owners and their pets. Face painting and caricature drawings will also be offered for no charge.

This is a free event. It will be held rain or shine. We ask that those attending please bring a can of pet food to be donated to Animal Care and Control. Dogs are welcome but MUST be on a leash or crated.

RDO Day is a celebration that involves hundreds of organizations around the country with activities every dog owner can enjoy.
