Press release from the Fort Wayne-Allen County Health Department:
Follow Clean Air Force on Facebook
(June 9, 2010) – Fans of the Clean Air Force can now support its mission on Facebook.
The Allen County Air Quality Task Force has created a profile on the popular social media site where people can learn about air quality action steps, share opinions, ask questions, get real-time air quality updates, and win prizes.
“Social media sites like Facebook give us a new way to interact with Allen County residents in our effort to reduce air pollution,” says Jerry Foust of the Allen County Air Quality Task Force. “We are excited about the potential this medium provides.”
In addition to this new method of disseminating information, the Air Quality Task Force will continue to use its Web site, www.thecleanairforce.org, to inform the public.
Visitors to the Clean Air Force Web site and Facebook page can check the area’s current air quality conditions and forecasts, sign up to receive Air Quality Action Day Alerts by e-mail and learn ways to help Fort Wayne and Allen County have cleaner air.
Throughout the summer, residents can also sign up to win a $500 gift certificate at Summit City Bicycle and Fitness. Allen County residents can register at Summit City Bicycle and Fitness (3801 Lima Road) or online at www.thecleanairforce.org.
About the Allen County Air Quality Task Force
The task force was created in 2004 by the Allen County Commissioners to develop strategies to reduce the amount of pollutants released into the air. Partners in the effort include Allen County and Fort Wayne officials, the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health, along with representative from the Northeast Indiana Regional Coordinating Council, Citilink and the Greater Fort Wayne Area Chamber of Commerce. As always, the task force is asking residents to “do what you can do” to make the air safer for everyone to breathe. Some simple steps include:
- Avoid idling vehicles
- Delay lawn mowing and refueling vehicles until after 7 p.m.
- Use public transit or carpool
- Walk or ride a bicycle when you can
- Maintain your vehicle’s proper tire pressure
