Lawmakers roll up their sleeves and go to work on problems facing Hoosiers

An e-mail update from Senator Tom Wyss (R-15):

Lawmakers Roll Up Their Sleeves and Go To Work on Problems Facing Hoosiers

During summer and fall months when the legislature is not in session full-time, the Indiana General Assembly utilizes bipartisan interim study committees and commissions to conduct in-depth research into complicated, complex issues. Often this work results in legislative solutions to the pressing issues facing Hoosier families, businesses and farms.

Based on their talents and passions, lawmakers will be tapped to work with certain committees. Specific assignments will be announced in the near future.

In gearing up for the next legislative session reconvening in January of 2011, I will closely watch developments of all interim study committees, review their recommendations and seek public input.

In all, 16 interim study committees are scheduled to meet this year:

  • Interim Study Committee on Education
  • Interim Study Committee on Gaming
  • Census Data Advisory Committee
  • Code Revision Commission
  • Commission on Courts
  • Criminal Law and Sentencing Policy Study Committee
  • Interim Study Committee on Economic Development
  • Health Finance Commission
  • Select Joint Commission on Medicaid Oversight
  • Commission on Mental Health
  • Commission on Military and Veterans Affairs
  • Natural Resources Study Committee
  • Pension Management Oversight Commission
  • Regulatory Flexibility Committee
  • Commission on State Tax and Financing Policy
  • Unemployment Insurance Oversight Committee

More information about committee topics, schedules and agendas will be available online.I encourage area citizens to stay in contact with me throughout the interim.
