Daniel Swartz, chosen to curate four public venues through the Downtown Development Authority for Artprize in Grand Rapids, Michigan
(Fort Wayne – May 31, 2010 – Daniel Swartz, a Fort Wayne native, has been selected by the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) in Grand Rapids, MI to curate four public spaces for Artprize, a city-wide international art competition which takes place September 22-October 10th, 2010.
Artprize is in its second year, and is a large scale public art project which is described as “Part arts festival, part social experiment”. $449,000 in prizes are awarded after 16 days of public voting decide who the winners are. 1st prize is $250,000, one of the largest cash awards given in the art world. Receiving major national press, and bringing over 200,000 visitors to Grand Rapids, Artprize has been deemed an overwhelming success.
Swartz, currently working for the Downtown Improvement District, is also an artist, writer, and independent curator. His artwork was recently on display at the Richard G. Lugar Northeast Indiana Community Service Center, his writing can be seen in his regular arts column in the Fort Wayne Reader, a locally published arts and culture newspaper, and other curatorial examples include; “Summer Set” series of exhibitions which take place at Club Soda, that Swartz curates through Wunderkammer Company, a 501(c)3 non-profit he founded in 2007, and “Self Construction” an exhibition Swartz has curated which will be running from June 18th-August 22nd at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art.
