Fort Wayne’s Fire Department History featured at History Center’s June 6 Mather Lecture Series

Dennis Giere, a captain in the Fort Wayne Fire Department, will deliver the June 6 George R. Mather lecture at the History Center.

Giere’s topic will be “The History of the Fort Wayne Fire Department”.

The lecture begins at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Persons attending also have the opportunity to visit History Center exhibits at no additional charge.

Giere has been the vice president of the Board of Directors of the Fort Wayne Firefighters Museum since 1996 and treasurer of the Law Enforcement/Firefighters Memorial of Allen County since 2005. He became a volunteer firefighter and paramedic in his hometown of Coldwater, OH in 1980 and was hired by the Fort Wayne Fire Department in 1989.

In 1993, while serving on the board of directors at the History Center, the Rev. George R. Mather proposed a series of free Sunday afternoon lectures on topics that influenced Fort Wayne and Allen County history. This lecture series has been renamed in his memory. All lectures in this series are free to the public and are made possible with support from the Dunsire Family Foundation.
