Press release from the Indiana State Department of Agriculture:
2010 Indiana Farmers’ Market, U-Pick and Agritourism Directory now available on-line
(May 27, 2010) – Just in time for the opening of Indiana’s farmers’ markets season, the Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA), in partnership with the Indiana Office of Tourism Development (Tourism), is pleased to again offer the Indiana Farmers’ Market, U-Pick and Agritourism Directory.
This year, the Directory will be available exclusively on the ISDA web site with interactive capabilities that will allow easy searches for the preferred product or destination. The participating producers will also be able to update their information themselves; allowing the Directory to be continually up-to-date.
“Bringing the Directory on-line will provide added convenience for families or tourists planning a day trip or looking for a local farmers’ market, u-pick farm or other agritourism destination,” said Program Manager for Entrepreneurship and Diversified Agriculture, Ann Schmelzer.
The Directory is designed to help reach the growing market of tourists and consumers interested in locally grown food and agricultural destinations. It is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop Block Grant Program.
In addition, ISDA is working with the Indiana Humanities Council on a “Visit Your Farmers’ Market Saturday!” set for June 12.
The initiative is in partnership with the Council’s Food for Thought program, a two-year celebration of food and its role in Hoosiers’ lives and culture. Learn more about this event, and the entire program at FoodforThoughtIndiana.org.
