Press release from the 3 Rivers Federal Credit Union:
Tips for cost-Effective College Funding
Preparing for college often leaves a person with an empty wallet and an overflowing mind. But help is coming. On Thursday, May 20th, 3Rivers Federal Credit Union will partner with CU Student Choice for an event called College Planning 101. Its goal is to educate local students and parents, thereby making the college process as simple and inexpensive as possible. National speaker Melissa Hunt will focus on topics such as:
- Financial aid
- The FASFA process
- Scholarships and grants
- Student loans
Both members and nonmembers of 3Rivers Federal Credit Union are welcome. The event will held at the University of Saint Francis in Trinity Hall and will run from 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Light snacks and drinks will be served. And, unlike college, it is free.
In addition to sponsoring the event, 3Rivers will provide students with an opportunity to apply for the Wilbur Biggs scholarship. Every year, 3Rivers gives away a total $10,000 in scholarships. In order to be eligible, students must be a member of 3Rivers and major in a career that could be found within the credit union. Examples include: accounting, human resources, and marketing.
Formed in 1935, Three Rivers Federal Credit Union (www.3riversfcu.org) serves more than 68,000 members in Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio. The credit union has nearly $600 million in assets and is among the largest credit unions in Indiana – operating 18 branches located in Auburn, Bluffton, Columbia City, Fort Wayne, Kendallville, New Haven, St. Marys (Ohio), and Van Wert (Ohio).
