Press conference from the Allen County Board of Commissioners:

Portion of Aboite Center Rd. Set to Close Apr. 1
First phase of improvement project to run through early June

(March 19, 2010) – The Allen County Highway Department announced today that a portion of Aboite Center Road will be closed to traffic beginning April 1 so that the first phase of a $6.6 million improvement project can move forward.

The closing of Aboite Center between Dicke Road and Coventry Lane is expected to last until June 4. The posted detour for eastbound traffic will be south on Homestead Road to US 24 then east to Aboite Center and the reverse for westbound traffic. Traffic will be maintained at the intersection of Coventry Lane and Aboite Center.

The improvements to Aboite Center Road will eventually extend from Coventry Lane to West Jefferson Boulevard. Work on the project began in June of last year and includes widening Aboite Center from two lanes to four 12-foot wide lanes with curb and gutter, adding an eight foot wide multi-use path on the north side and a five-foot wide sidewalk along the south side of the road. The entire project is scheduled to be finished by mid-October. Brooks Construction of Fort Wayne was the successful bidder for construction of the project.
