From the Downtown Improvement District’s website:

Are you looking for a way to help cleanup your community and beautify your downtown? Come downtown on Saturday, May 15th, for The Great Gateway Green-Up!

WHAT IT IS

The Downtown Improvement District and Business On Broadway are partnering with several local businesses and organizations to cleanup several key gateways around downtown. Volunteers will help remove weeds, litter, debris, and other materials that have collected on sidewalks and beneath viaducts over the winter.

The Great Gateway Green-Up is being held as part of the City’s annual Great American Cleanup event. The Great American Cleanup is a national cleanup event that encourages thousands of residents each year to beautify their communities. In 2009, over 4,200 people participated in the local Great American Cleanup event, and collected over 193,360 pounds of litter, debris, and other materials from city streets, parks, and other areas.

WHEN AND WHERE

The event itself will be held on Saturday, May 15th, from 9 a.m. to noon at two locations simultaneously – downtown and Broadway Street. Work done downtown will focus on areas around Baker Street from Calhoun to Fairfield, while work done on Broadway Street will center around the intersection of Broadway and Taylor streets.

DETAILS, DETAILS..

This will be a Bring Your Own Tools (BYOT) event! Shovels, rakes, brooms, and things of the like will all be helpful – so bring them along with you! Gloves, trash bags, and a free t-shirt will be provided for every participating volunteer.

Oh, and did we mention coffee? Higher Grounds Midtowne will be providing free coffee to volunteers at the downtown location! However, only a limited supply of coffee will be available and will be served on a first-come first-served basis – so be sure to come a little early!
