Komets ambush Generals 2-1 for 2-0 series lead
Game 3 Wednesday in Flint

(May 10, 2010) – The two-time defending Turner Cup Champion Komets, going for their third straight IHL Championship, have jumped out to a 2-0 Finals lead with a 2-1 win Monday night over the visiting Flint Generals in Fort Wayne.

The scoring started with a gift from the Komets when the puck was inadvertently stick handled by a Fort Wayne player into his own net to the surprise of 6,509 at the Memorial Coliseum. Flint defenseman Jake Pence was the last General to have possession of the puck and was credited with his first mark of the playoffs. The goal stood up through the remainder of the first period to give the Generals a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission.

The second period also only featured one goal. Fort Wayne’s Matt Syroczynski scored his league leading sixth goal of the post season at 13:22 on the power play. Fort Wayne’s Justin Hodgman picked up an assist for an IHL high seven-game point-scoring streak. The Komets capped the night with P.C. Drouin scoring the game winner at 5:46 of the third stanza to give Fort Wayne the win.

Fort Wayne’s Nick Boucher extended his win streak to five games in his sixth straight appearance making 31 saves. Rob Nolan suffered the loss for the Generals on 34 saves.

The Finals move to Flint for games 3 and 4. Game 3 of the best-of-seven series is Wednesday at Perani Arena at 7pm. Game 4 is slated for Friday at 7pm.
