Statement from Phil Troyer, Republican candidate in the 2010 primary for the 3rd District Congressional seat:
New poll shows momentum moving to Troyer
The Mike Downs Center for Indiana Politics released a poll today indicating that Phil Troyer is quickly gaining ground on his primary opponents during the final days before the election. Specifically, the poll showed the following breakdown:
- 35% – Mark Souder
- 29% – Bob Thomas
- 19% – Phil Troyer
- 02% – Greg Dickman
“Needless to say, I am thrilled,” said Troyer. “To be in this race when my opponents have outspent me 10 to 1 and the news media had written me off is nothing short of amazing.”
“I was probably in single digits two weeks ago,” Troyer admitted. “However, the positive message of my advertising campaign has been in stark contrast to the mudslinging by Congressman Souder and Bob Thomas. When they started steering their attacks toward me, I knew their polls must indicate we were showing strength.”
“Hopefully, my campaign will demonstrate that you don’t have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on negative advertising to be effective,” noted Troyer. “I have run a low-budget, grassroots campaign that has focused on issues, not mudslinging. If I am successful, it will send shockwaves through Washington.”
