Press release from the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory:

Botanical Conservatory Events in May

Art Exhibits & Receptions: May 1 – June 30
Meet the Artist: Sunday, May 2, 1 – 3 pm
Karen Musgrave – Fiber/Mixed Media
Karen is a quilt maker, mask maker, teacher, speaker, writer, and curator whose interest is in forging a connection between America and other cultures through quilt making. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is in many private collections. She is also fascinated with masks and how they allow us to act out and act up, lose ourselves in a role, and find parts of ourselves we might otherwise never know.

Science Fun for Everyone – Butterflies and Moths: May 1 & 15 (11 am & 2 pm); May 20 (6 pm) Do you know how to tell the difference between a butterfly and a moth? How about a cocoon and a chrysalis? Join us as we focus on the insect order Lepidoptera and learn all about the magic of molting, metamorphosis, and migration. Then visit the live butterfly exhibit to experience these amazing animals up close.

$1 Night: May 6 On the first Thursday of the month we offer $1 admissions, 5-8 pm. Visit during those hours and pay only $1 per person, adult or child. (Babies and up to age 2 still admitted free.) Our gift shop is open until 8 pm, as well.

Mother’s Day Plant Sale:
Friday, May 7, 4-7 pm
Saturday, May 8, 9 am – 5 pm
Sunday, May 9, 12 – 4 pm
Note: The Plant Sale is held at Foellinger Theatre in Franke Park

It’s time for the annual Plant Sale! Hundreds of varieties of plants will be available for purchase at the Botanical Conservatory’s three-day plant extravaganza. You’ll find herbs, tomatoes, and other vegetable starts along with the usual great quality annuals, perennials, tropicals, color bowls, mixed containers, and hanging baskets. These sturdy plants are grown by the Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department and sold as a fundraiser to help bring you the quality programming you have come to expect from the Conservatory. The supply is consistently replenished throughout the weekend, but come early for the best selection because it won’t last forever. Volunteers will be on hand to assist you in plant selection and loading. Plenty of free (that’s right, free) parking! Are you a Conservatory member? If so, you can enjoy the preview sale on Thursday, May 6, 4 – 7 pm. Memberships will be available for purchase that evening if you want to beat the crowd and get the best selection. Please watch our website www.botanicalconservatory.org for a plant list. Take Sherman Boulevard to Franke Park/Children’s Zoo. Foellinger Theatre is uphill from the Zoo entrance, south on Sherman Blvd. Park in lot. Sponsored by WAJI Majic 95.1 FM and PBS 39. For more information, call (260) 427-6440.

Mother’s Day in the Garden: Sunday, May 9, 12 – 4 pm Treat Mom to a special outing at the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory on Mother’s Day, between noon and 4 pm. By “Mom” we mean your mother, of course, but also grandmas, aunts, and anyone else who means MOM to you! Your mom will not only enjoy the beautiful displays of flowers but our annual butterfly exhibit of free range butterflies. No butterflies on strings here! Each mom will receive a special Mother’s Day plant while supplies last. Regular Conservatory admission applies: $5/adult, $3/child age 3-17, free for children 2 and under. Sponsored by WAJI Majic 95.1 FM.

Please watch for more information on our website: www.botanicalconservatory.org or call us at 427-6446. Regular admission is $5/adult, $3/child age 3-17, free for children 2 and under.
