Press release from Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation:
Nationally Recognized Scholar to Speak at Weisser Youth Center
Erik Cork has presented writing workshops for over 300,000 participants
The Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department’s SBA Academy has invited nationally recognized educational scholar Eric Cork to Weisser Park Youth Center, 802 Eckart Street, on Thursday, April 22 at 6 pm. The title of Cork’s hour-long presentation is: “Rap, Rhythm & Rhyme: Rebuilding the Writing Foundation.” The public is encouraged to attend this free, family-friendly event.
“We must nurture the seeds of brilliance waiting to blossom within each pupil,” said Cork. “If kids are not learning the way we teach, we need to teach the way they learn.”
Cork’s fast-paced writing workshop is designed to empower students to systematically organize their thoughts and communicate them effectively on paper. According to Cork, “Music, laughter, mnemonic devices and audience participation will make the workshop a visually stimulating and physically intoxicating buffet of teachable techniques for professional educators who are absolutely serious about reaching each and every one of their students.”
