Free clinic offers teens three required vaccines
(March 2, 2010). – Parents are being urged to take advantage of a special vaccine clinic for teens who will need three additional vaccines for school in the fall.
A change in state law requires students in grades 6 through 12 to be vaccinated against meningococcal disease, chickenpox and whooping cough by the first day of the 2010-2011 school year. Only those students with a valid medical exemption or religious objection will be exempt from the requirement.
The Vaccines for Teens clinic will be open Monday through Thursday, 3 to 6:30 p.m., through March 25.
The clinic is at 1818 Carew St., 3rd floor. Parking is available in an attached garage. All three of the newly-required vaccinations will be offered for free. At the clinic, the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health will also continue to offer free H1N1 flu vaccine.
Parents should bring the child’s shot record and/or any proof of chickenpox infection or past immunization. The document required is a written statement, including the date of the infection, and parent signature.
Teen-agers under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian (with notarized documentation).
