Press release from Fort Wayne Community Schools:

High school lottery postponed, information meetings set

The high school lottery scheduled to take place Friday, March 5, has been postponed as Fort Wayne Community Schools further investigates closing Elmhurst High School. The FWCS Board of School Trustees and administrators presented closing Elmhurst during a public meeting on Tuesday, March 2, as part of the $15 million in budget cuts that need to be made.

Because this change would significantly affect attendance at the high schools, the high school lottery is being postponed. A new date for the lottery will not be determined until after the School Board makes a final determination regarding Elmhurst on Monday, March 22. At that time, the district will determine any changes to the lottery procedure and when the lottery will be held. The middle school lottery, also scheduled for Friday, March 5, will still take place as scheduled. The elementary lottery is scheduled for Friday, March 26.

FWCS has also scheduled three meetings for the community to voice their opinions about the potential closures and recommendations on the $15 million cuts. The meetings will be as follows:

  • Elmhurst Information Meeting – 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at Elmhurst, 3829 Sand Point Road
  • Pleasant Center Information Meeting – 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at Pleasant Center, 2323 W. Pleasant Center Road
  • Public Forum on Budget Reductions – 6 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at the Grile Administrative Center, 1200 S. Clinton St.
