I-69 Southbound Traffic from Indiana-Michigan State Line to Marion Intermittently Restricted on Thursday, Jan. 28
Oversized loads will reduce speeds and cause traffic obstructions

ALLEN, GRANT, STEUBEN, DEKALB, NOBLE, WHITLEY, HUNTINGTON, WELLS, WABASH COUNTIES, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and the Indiana State Police (ISP) announce the movement of two oversized loads on southbound I-69 to be moved from the Indiana-Michigan state line, Exit 157, to Marion, Exit 64, on Thursday, Jan. 28. These oversized loads will reduce speeds and cause traffic obstructions.
This will be a double load and it is a weather permitting transport operation.

The first load will leave the Indiana-Michigan state line at 8:30 a.m. and it will be followed by a second load. The following are approximate arrival times:

  • Fremont – arrival between 8:30-9:30 a.m.
  • Fort Wayne – arrival between 9:30-10:30 a.m.
  • Markle – arrival between 10:30-11 a.m.
  • Marion – arrival between 11 a.m. to noon. At Exit 64, the oversized loads will take S.R. 18 west for 8 miles. ISP will block intersections so that the loads may safely pass through Marion and onto the GM plant.

The first load is 215 feet long and 18 feet wide. The second load is 195 feet long and is 18 feet wide. Both loads exceed 500,000 pounds.

These times are approximate and motorists should expect slowed traffic between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Motorists may also wish to select alternate routes and/or plan accordingly for the traffic delays.

Additional loads are expected to be moved through February.

Diamond Heavy Hauling, Inc. of Shandon, Ohio, is transporting the oversized loads.
