TinCaps’ Campaign Praised by Ballpark Digest
Fort Wayne recognized for outstanding 2009 marketing strategies

The Fort Wayne TinCaps were among three Minor League Baseball teams in the country to receive Marketing Campaign of the Year honors from BallparkDigest.com. The consistent use of the team’s new logo in marketing efforts as well as cable TV broadcasts of every home game on Comcast caught the publication’s eye.

“We’re glad that a respected industry publication recognized the way we did things this year,” TinCaps president Mike Nutter said. “Awards like this come from putting our fans first. We want to give them the best experience, and that means affordable family entertainment.” Ballpark Digest cited the TinCaps’ “use of branding as marketing” at Parkview Field and in other facets of public relations. Nearly everything at Parkview Field shows a TinCaps logo, from banners outside the ballpark to the chairs at the end of every row of seating to the lids on the facility’s trash cans. The consistency and repetition of the “Play Downtown” motto became synonymous with the team’s move to downtown Fort Wayne.

The TinCaps extended their marketing campaign with television broadcasts of all 70 regular-season home games as well as six home playoff games on Comcast local cable. The only other Minor League Baseball team to televise each home game is the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs. “We’re excited Comcast has given us another way to interact with our fans,” TinCaps Vice President of Marketing Michael Limmer said. “We look forward to expanding our video program and giving fans more opportunities to enjoy TinCaps baseball.”

The TinCaps were one of three Midwest League teams to receive Marketing Campaign of the Year recognition. The Dayton Dragons and Quad Cities River Bandits were also honored by Ballpark Digest.
