Labor, Productivity and Costs figures released

Reports released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Productivity and Costs News Release:

Productivity increased 8.1 percent in the nonfarm business sector during
the third quarter of 2009 as unit labor costs fell 2.5 percent (seasonally adjusted annual rates, revised). In manufacturing, productivity increased 13.4 percent while unit labor costs fell 6.1 percent.

Employment Situation News Release:

The unemployment rate edged down to 10.0 percent in November, and
nonfarm payroll employment was essentially unchanged (-11,000). In
the prior 3 months, payroll job losses had averaged 135,000 a month.
In November, employment fell in construction, manufacturing, and
information, while temporary help services and health care added jobs.
