American Red Cross press release:
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Hallmark Homes Host a Joint American Red Cross Blood Drive
Donate Blood in Honor of the Cowan-Brown Family
On Sunday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Hallmark Homes will host a joint American Red Cross blood drive in honor of the Cowan-Brown family. This blood drive will take place at the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition construction site, located at 11040 S. 100 W. in Bunker Hill. All presenting donors will receive a commemorative t-shirt and a coupon good for one free Mike’s carwash while supplies last.
Andy and Heather Cowan are factory workers who struggle to support their four children Ryan, 16, Trevor, 13, Mason, 8, and their daughter Kori, 12, who is battling a congenital blood disease. Kori has raised over $35,000 for the American Cancer Society in honor of her friend with whom she shared a room during one of her stays at a blood clinic.
Cancer patients can frequently need blood products during their care and treatment. Most chemotherapies and radiation can lower blood counts for red cells, white cells and platelets. Some patients receive red cells and platelets while undergoing these procedures. Sponsoring a blood drive in conjunction with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was a way Hallmark Homes could extend assistance to the entire community.
“It’s incredible when thousands of people come together for something bigger than themselves,” said Derek Wilder, the CEO of Hallmark Homes. “Helping others in so many different ways not only changes their lives but our lives as well.”
Monetary donations will be accepted on behalf of the family throughout the week of construction. To schedule an appointment to donate blood at this very special event call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE or visit givelife.org.
There will also be an Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Hallmark Homes joint blood drive on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Indiana University Kokomo in the Kelley Student Center from 12 noon until 6 p.m. IUK is located at 2300 S. Washington in Kokomo. All presenting donors at this blood drive will also receive a commemorative t-shirt and a coupon good for one free Mike’s carwash while supplies last. Plus, all presenting donors will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for a $50 gasoline gift card. Please go to givelife.org and enter sponsor code “iukokomo” to schedule your blood donation appointment.
