Press release from Habitat for Humanity:

Fort Wayne Habitat Youth United Aluminum Can Drive

Come to Glenbrook Mall on Saturday, October 24, 2009 and help Youth United fill a Habitat van with empty aluminum cans! Youth United is trying to raise $50,000 to build a home for a partner family in 2010, and all the proceeds from this event will help us reach our goal.

Simply come to the parking lot near Macy’s with your empty cans from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. People can drop off their cans and stop by our information booths to find out more about Youth United Habitat for Humanity.

Youth United is a youth led committee that brings youth, including Habitat homeowner youth, together from throughout our community to sponsor and build a Habitat home. The youth involved in Youth United learn leadership and teamwork skills, and gain a better understanding of their community and poverty housing, all while making a difference in our community. All students are engaged in fund raising, education and advocacy activities, while those 16 and over help with the actual house construction. The four goals of Youth United are to involve youth in the community, engage youth in Habitat’s mission of eliminating poverty housing, foster teamwork among diverse groups of youths, and develop youth leaders. For more information about Habitat and Youth United, please email bsmith@fortwaynehabitat.com, or call Barbara at HABITAT (422-4828), or visit the Youth United web site.
