10/15 Budget Hearing: Redevelopment

2010 City Civil Budget

Notes from the Fort Wayne City Council Budget Hearing on October 15, 2009.

This post covers notes from the Redevelopment Department budget discussion. The budget for Redevelopment may be downloaded here.

Greg Leatherman, Redevelopment Deputy Director is joining John Urbahans, Director of Community Development at the Council table.

Karen Goldner – Why did the liability go up?  Greg – own a big building now.  We’re more than ahead on our obligations for Parkview Field and Harrison Square.  Right now we have a surplus of funds, however, he’ll know more in January.

John Shoaff – troubles him when we’re not getting performance from Hardball/Barry Real Estate, but they’re still profiting off the deal.  John is advocating for the daily liquidated damages of $5,000 per day to be enforced.  Not so much a question, rather reinforcement of his previously stated point.

Liz Brown – asking about the proposed changes Jason Freier, owner of the TinCaps Baseball team, has made.  They are not sure of the dollar amount nor who will pay for them.

Tom Smith – latest on Condo building?  Barry Real Estate was in town, meeting with potential tenants and potential developers in town.  As the economy shows signs of bouncing back which has led to increased interest in the project.  On-going conversations and Barry is working hard.

Asking about a potential work stoppage at Hotel site.  Materials and equipment has been cleared out.   Not so much a work stoppage as demonstrations.   No striking on the project.  Greg talked with White Lodging last week and they were still enthused about the project’s progress.

John Shoaff – concerns about office space being part of  the project.  Wondering if it’s the right location for the condos?

Greg – haven’t changed the project, just trying to be open to multi-uses.  We want for people to be living downtown.
