Saturday, the chain saws were fired up and the trees lining Calhoun Street between Washington Boulevard and Berry Street were removed.
It is, obviously, an entirely different looking street.  This post is not about whether or not it should be happening or whether it’s the right plan, so please – no comments about that.  What I do want to draw your attention to is some of the façades revealed.  There are some beautiful buildings in that area.  Let’s enjoy them in the interim before the canopy fills back in.
In particular is 817-819 South Calhoun. With it’s red sandstone insets and rounded brick corners, it’s a beautiful building.
