Health Care rally/prayer vigil

Supporters of President Barack Obama’s Health Care plan gathered on the Courthouse Green Thursday evening.

I was there early, but it seemed the protestors slightly outnumbered those in support.  I was unable to talk with anyone as I had to make my way to Parkview Field for the All-America Award celebration.  It appeared when I was there, that Tony Henry, brother of Mayor Tom Henry was leading the supporters.

  1. Can we assume that only 8 people in the Fort Wayne area are supporters of the Obamacare system being pushed in DC? That’s all that showed up to pray.
Per the signs that others (over 25 persons) held during the prayers, it was apparent that, at least on this fine Thursday at 6:15 PM, those for the Obama plan were in a very small group.
At the close (was suppose to last til 7:00 but they were all done at 6:20) all 50 persons joinede in singing “The Battle Hymn of The Republic”. Some of us were at our best when we sang ” As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free, While God is marching on!”, as we contemplated about Obamacare doing just the opposite ” As He died to make men holy, Obama wants to let old men & women die to save money!” or for some of us, the non-military words “As He died to make men holy, let us live,if you please!”
If you feel like those who oppose Obamacare, show up at 10 AM at the courthose lawn and let’s have a town hall meeting here in Northeast Indiana! The one sponsoring group is headquartered in Bloomington, IN and the other, Organizing For America, is the remenants of Obama’s Election Committee, headquartered in DC (ACORN is the activist group within Organizing For America)

  2. ALL I ask is that I can get the same health-care Mark Souder gets. At his cost of course!! I was at ONE and paid 225.00 for the office visit then had to pay 85.00 for and injection fee! from the same PA< not a Doctor< to give me the shot. This is really what is wrong with our health care.

  3. It wouldn’t surprise me if Tony Henry, Mayor Tom’s brother, is in support of Obamacare. What surprises me is the total number of people who are actually naive enough to believe that this is a good thing for the country.
    Message to MY government:
Stay the heck out of my personal life!

  4. Donna, I’m wondering if “stay the heck out of my personal life” means that you feel that gays and lesbians should have the right to marry or that abortion should be a woman’s choice, and should not be outlawed by the government. Somehow, I doubt it.

  5. The term “Obama-care” is a misnomer and pejorative in it’s use. The fact is that President Obama does not have a health care plan–he is letting congress try to hammer one out. President Obama has only stated 3 principles to consider in overhauling our health care delivery system in the U.S.

    * Reduce Costs — Rising health care costs are crushing the budgets of governments, businesses, individuals and families and they must be brought under control
    * Guarantee Choice — Every American must have the freedom to choose their plan and doctor – including the choice of a public insurance option
    * Ensure Quality Care for All — All Americans must have quality and affordable health care

Please consider the facts and not hearsay and inflammatory commentary as heard on talk radio! Do you believe everything you hear? Or do you just want to hear what supports your own belief or world view?

Many critics of an good health care overhaul–including a strong public option–say “Keep Government Out of My Health Care.” I was astonished to learn that many of these same critics have mistakenly thought that their Medicare coverage was from a private insurer! Medicare is a GOVERNMENT operated program, folks. The “private” part comes from Medicare part D and the complications having arisen from the tinkering in the past.

Medicare works! Do you really want the Big 5 multi-billion dollar a year insurance companies and their executives calling the shots on your healthcare? It’s these “death-eaters” that you need to rail against, not those of us for a strong universal health care plan. Carefully read the text of one of the best proposed bills in the house so far, H.R. 676, by Rep. John Conyers. There is NOTHING in this bill that says a word about “abortion” or “euthanasia.” This bill would save, SAVE! taxpayer money over all, despite a modest tax increase on payroll taxes. This plan would be a shot in the arm of our economy for starters.

We need to stop with the “Us” vs. “Them” talk and work together. We must take the time to research the facts and leave emotion out of the decision making process. And please, please, please, stop spreading the lies!
