The Taste of the Arts entertainment is free and focused on building awareness of the wide variety of art and cultural opportunities in the greater Fort Wayne area. Great food will be a highlight of the festival with 19 local restaurants serving samples from their menu. Tickets for food and beverages will be $1 each, with most items ranging from 1 to 4 tickets.
The activities cover three areas:
- Freimann Square and the Arts United Center plaza where over 40 non-profit organizations will offer hands-on activities and information about their different arts programs and a handful of artists will be selling their works.
- The History Center, also free during the festival, will offer demonstrations on candle-making, basket weaving, spinning and take-home crafts. ARCH will offer hourly historic downtown walking tours from the Barr Street Market during the festival.
- Hall Community Arts Center will have an outside stage, food and beverage vendors and activities inside the building provided by the four arts organizations housed there.
Arts United will use this event as an annual catalyst to fund new projects. This year, proceeds from food, beverage sales and goodwill donations will be used to start a new grant fund for schools to pay for field trip costs or artist-in-residence programs.
Free bus service will be available throughout the city during the festival. Citilink will be reimbursed for uncollected fares by Arts United’s Art as a Catalyst: Diversity Initiative, which is funded by a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The free service begins at 8 a.m. and the last bus leaves downtown at 5:15 p.m. Free shuttle service will carry patrons between venues during the festival.
Taste of the Arts organizers are busy pulling the final details together to make the event accessible to everyone who wants to sample some of Fort Wayne’s food and artistic treasures. Our websites are regularly updated. For daytime activities and the evening band showcase.
