From the Journal Gazette:
City park renamed for Lebamoff
By Amanda Iacone[…] The south-side park, home to Reservoir Pond and bordered by South Clinton, Lafayette and Suttenfield streets and East Creighton Avenue in the La Rez neighborhood, will now be known as Ivan Lebamoff Reservoir Park.
Lebamoff was mayor from 1972 through 1975 and also was on the city parks board. He was known as a champion of downtown and city neighborhoods and helped create the City Light lease fund. He died in 2006 at age 73.
Parks Director Al Moll said Lebamoff helped find money to rebuild the deteriorating Reservoir Park in the mid-1970s and transferred the property from City Utilities to the parks department.
[…] The family has pledged $100,000 to create an endowment that would help pay for ongoing maintenance at the park.
The family hopes to have about $25,000 raised by the spring when the parks department will rededicate the park; the rest will be funded over the next several years, Moll said.
Renaming a park is rare. A department policy allows for naming a park in honor of a person if that person donated land, donated money to a major project, or played a significant role in the community or parks, Moll said.
Ivan Lebamoff met two of those criteria, he said.
[…] The board did not take action on a proposed alcohol policy for Robert E. Meyers Park outside Parkview Field because board members are waiting for the board’s attorney to review the policy.
