Broadway Expansions and Mergers

From WANE-15:

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Newschannel 15 is first to report that a handful of businesses along downtown’s Broadway are planning some big improvements.

The Rongos family plans to expand their “George’s International Grocery” along Broadway and Taylor. They also own and operate the adjacent International Bakery. The center is also anchored by a Family Dollar.

The Rongos family plans to renovate the exterior of their property, and create an international village of additional shops, with tenants expected to be announced at a later date.

Right across Broadway, the owners of Mad Anthony’s and Munchies Emporium are also planning a large-scale renovation and expansion project. The restaurants will grow to include a beer garden, as well as some additional façade and exterior renovations.

In a Newschannel 15 exclusive, Chappell’s officials say a big change is coming to the Broadway restaurant and fish market. The 23-year-old business is expected to merge with Hartley’s restaurant on Fairfield.

The 25-year-old Hartley’s is expected to close on Fairfield, and is expected to merge its menu with Chappell’s menu at the Broadway location.

Chappell’s on Broadway is expected to close before the end of the year for the renovation, and is expected to later open with a name using a combination of Hartley’s and Chappell’s.
