Public welcome to sign final I-beam at Harrison Square topping-off
Beam will be raised to mark highest point of ballparkMayor Tom Henry invites the public to sign the 20-foot I-beam July 1 at the topping off of the Harrison Square ballpark.
The construction site will open at 11 a.m. Attendees can sign the beam from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The ceremony will start at 11:30 with Mayor Henry, current and former City Council and Redevelopment Commission members, representatives from Hardball Capital, Barry Real Estate and the Wizards and other City leaders signing the beam. The beam will then be lifted into place to mark the highest point in the ballpark’s structure.
“Harrison Square is a project for everyone in Fort Wayne, and to celebrate that spirit of community, I encourage the public to join us in signing the beam to be part of this landmark downtown development,” Henry said.
Visitors can enter at the corner of Brackenridge and Ewing or near the corner of Douglas and Webster, across from the Federal Courthouse parking lot. Staff members will help direct people.
In the heart of downtown Fort Wayne, Harrison Square is a mixed-use development with private and public funding, comprised of a cutting-edge minor-league ballpark, retail space, condominiums, a full-service Courtyard by Marriott hotel and parking garage. The ballpark is on schedule to be ready for the first pitch for the 2009 season.
