Club Soda Patio and Parking Lot

Work on the next phase of the Club Soda expansion has begun.  A patio area is being built to the West of the building which will be surrounded by landscaping.

Today, April 21, 2008, the Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission voted to accept ownership of the City-County employee parking lot on the Northeast corner of the Clinton and Superior Street intersection.  Ownership was transferred from the Board of Public Works last week.  It is hoped that developers will be interested in developing the Superior Street side of the parking lot into retail on the ground level and housing units on the upper floors.  With the transfer, the Redevelopment Commission will be able to use the land as an incentive to developers, selling it for little or no cost.  This was done for the Courtyard by Marriott and The Harrison Condos, part of Harrison Square.

From the Journal Gazette article by Ben Lanka in Thursday, April 17, 2008’s paper:

At least one restaurant is looking to grow in the area, as Club Soda has begun construction on another patio area outside its restaurant. Noelle Reith, restaurant owner, said the 30-by-60-foot patio is expected to be completed in about five weeks and will be about the size of the enclosed four-seasons room recently built.

Reith said it will include landscaping so people don’t have to look at a parking lot while dining. The new patio will offer appetizers and drinks, she said.

She said she would support efforts to encourage development of the area next to Club Soda, but she said the city should also consider the downside of more people, too.

“If they are going to take away parking, I hope they are going to give some parking also,” she said.
