A piece of the Wells Street character has fallen

The Sportsman’s Neighborhood Bar at 1234 North Wells Street went out of business last year.  In December, new signage appeared on the building, proclaiming it to now be Don Chava’s Mexican Grill.  I wondered if the murals on the front of the building would remain untouched.  Well, I receieved my answer this afternoon while driving past the building.  Most of the mural has been removed to make way for windows and new entrance off Wells Street.  The mural was part of the color and character of the Wells Street business area.  It’s sad to see it go, but on the other hand, it looks like a new tenant is taking over the building who will take care of the property and perhaps turn it into another thriving business along that corridor.  Best of luck to the Don Chava’s owners!
