Fort Wayne Public Works news release:
Protect Your Home and the Environment
Unload Household Hazardous Waste This Saturday
(August 12, 2020) – Many cabinets and garages contain seldom used chemical cleaning products, lawn and insect treatments, oils, fuels, and old cans of paint. We know these shouldn’t go to the landfill or down a storm drain because their toxins are not suitable for the environment and our waterways. They also pose a threat to our home. That’s why the City’s Solid Waste Department is teaming with the Allen County Department of Environmental Management (ACDEM) to help you eliminate corrosive, toxic, and even ignitable chemicals on August 15, 2020, at Tox-Away Saturday.
From 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. this Saturday, residents can bring these products to the Allen County household hazardous waste facility at 2260 Carroll Road for disposal. The Solid Waste Department covers most of the cost of proper disposal with a small fee charged to those bringing in the products for disposal.
Residents will need to bring cash to cover the disposal costs. Credit cards will not be accepted.
For the protection of residents and workers, this is a drive-thru event only. Residents will pull up, and staff members with personal protective gloves and masks will take disposables and cash without anyone getting out of their vehicle.
This week marks the third Tox-Away Saturday for this year. In the first two collection days, residents disposed of 11,518 pounds of household hazardous waste, including more than 1,600 gallons of latex paint, 550 lightbulbs and 350 pounds of batteries.
