Concordia students make face masks for Kroger employees
(May 1, 2020) — Concordia Lutheran High School students have created face masks for Kroger employees, and they plan to keep going.
About a dozen students in the FCCLA Club (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) made face masks for Kroger employees at the store on St. Joe Center Road after a student noticed that many customers were wearing them but only a few employees. The goal was to make 100 masks. They surpassed that goal by making 143 masks, and plan to keep making more.
“I have been picking up masks in the Concordia parking lot twice a week during the month of April,” said Lillian Anderson, a Concordia teacher and adviser for the club. After laundering the masks, she has been taking them to the Kroger store on St. Joe Center Road.
Today, students dropped off their next batch and picked up more kits to keep working.
The group wanted a community-service project even though they were not in school.
“Sewing masks is a project that individual students could do at home,” Anderson said. “Having a common project has been a way for students to have a semblance of community while social distancing.”
